Top Line Pet Supply Drive For HAWS

Many of you knew Champ, my dog and best friend.  He always will hold the official title of “Top Line

Security.”  He attended our Beat Breast Cancer event last year in the “pink” stroller.  He was the hit of the

day, getting tons of attention and loving every minute of it.

I’d like to share a personal story with you about my Champ.  On October 4, 2007, Champ got spooked by
a hot air balloon and ran away from our home in Menomonee Falls where we lived at that time.  We were
all frantically searching everywhere for him all day.  All our family, friends, and neighbors joined in the
search.  We put up posters and called all the animal shelters, emergency pet clinics, police departments,
anywhere we could think of that might be able to help us.  It was a very long, tough day and it was hard to
think of him being out there all alone, scared and possibly hurt.  We prayed that we would find him before
it got dark.  In the early evening, we got a phone call from the Humane Animal Welfare Society (HAWS).
A couple on their way home from church had spotted Champ wandering around on Pilgrim Road in the
middle of traffic.  They were kind enough to pick him up and take him to the HAWS shelter.  HAWS was
closed, but someone somehow listened to the message we left earlier in the day and realized that this
might be our Champ and called to let us know.  We were so thankful to God, to HAWS, and to the
anonymous couple for helping our pal and giving him back to us.
Without their help, we wouldn’t have been able to cherish five more years we were so lucky to have with
him.  He took his last breath in our arms at home on November 1, 2012, exactly one month shy of his 16th
birthday.  We will always love him and he will always be our best friend.
In his memory, the Top Line team will be conducting our second annual pet supply drive for HAWS from  now through December 31, 2013.  HAWS wish list for dogs includes the following:
  • Canned dog food – IN DESPERATE NEED.
  • Pup-peroni dog treats (and other soft dog treats).
  • Treatstik, small and large.
  • Natural Balance Roll (available at Petco).
  • Zukes dog treats.
  • Large, American-made rawhide bones.
  • Limited slip/martingale collars.
  • Kong dog toys – medium, large, and extra large.
  • Jars of meat baby food, such as chicken, turkey, and beef.
  • General supplies, such as paper towels, liquid laundry detergent, bleach, liquid dish soap, hand sanitizer, and Clorox wipes.

In light of the many recent pet food/treat recalls, HAWS respectfully requests that donations not contain imported ingredients or be imported from China in order to keep shelter animals safe.
Please Note:  No dog biscuits are needed at this time.  HAWS currently has an adequate supply.
There is a large plastic container at Top Line Gym where you can put your donations.  (Just look for the big picture of Champ and you’ll find it!)  Or, if you choose to make a financial contribution, you can make a check out directly to HAWS or give cash in an envelope marked “HAWS” and hand it directly to one of our Top Line staff (Brett, Dizz, or Jen) for safe keeping.
In addition, all water bottle proceeds during the month of December will go directly to HAWS.
Thanks for your help in honoring our Champ and enabling HAWS to help other dogs in need.   -Coach
